Animal welfare
That animal welfare issues are highly contentious is shown by recent
contributions to your columns. Supposed "facts" are notoriously
difficult to assess.
We must beware of those who would have us believe all is well regarding live exports. If it were, 800 vets would not have petitioned the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, calling for the college to advise vets not to undertake the signing of export certificates. Nor would the High Court have referred the issue to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. For the Church to get involved is risky, but not to do so lays us open to the charge of being irrelevant. Rev Keith A Horton (27/6/96) Return to 'Methodist Recorder'
