We had a great time at Veggie Heaven for God's
Creatures Ministry's annual Holiday Dinner. We gave away gifts as some
children drew numbers out of a bowl for the fortunate winners!
Deacon Joe Dwyer, Vice Chancellor for the Archdiocese of Newark
and Board Member of Catholic Concern for Animals-USA, gave a talk about
animals' The summary of his talk was to point out that we all have many
possessions and needs...the only possession animals have is their life
and their only need (unlike ours) is to GIVE love.
Janet Piszar, a long time activist, is currently Director of the
Bear Education And Resource (B.E.A.R.) Group. She encourages everyone
who says that they love animals to walk the walk, and not talk the talk.
"Caring, and doing nothing, is worse than doing nothing, because
you don't care" and/or "Volunteers do the work they want
to do; activists do what needs to be done." J. Piszar, 2002.
Rose Rosenbaum, President of Coalition for Animals, (the umbrella
organization over God's Creatures Ministry), shared some positive
happenings for animals who need us so badly. She is pictured with her
husband, Paul and son, Aaron. Coalition for Animals (CFA) is planning a
dog walk in the fall to raise funds for animals abandoned from
foreclosures and for the sub-groups who are all non-profit under CFA.
Please visit their website at www.Coalitionforanimals.org for more information.
All profit from the dinner went to our Veterinary Charity Fund to help
people with veterinarian bills. You can raise funds for people in your
area or for our fund.
Julie O'Connor, leader for Caring Activists Against Fur also shared. She
has been doing some remarkable activism against hunting also.
There is the League of Humane Voters in New Jersey which is being
promoted widely to help the animals in NJ.
If you live in a state that has a humane party, please consider joining!
For NJ here is some information:
The Mission of the League of Humane Voters of New Jersey (LOHV-NJ) is to
create, unite, and strengthen local political action committees, which
work to enact animal-friendly legislation and elect candidates for
public office who will use their votes and influence for animal
protection. They will also use our collective power to influence
legislators, town councils, and county representatives.
Please send a quick e-mail to Angi at
[email protected] if you would like to join and include
your name, address, phone, e-mail and any other contact information you
would like her to have. Your information will never be sold. LOHV-NJ
does share its lists with organizations who are doing political work for
animals. This is critically important for unification of our political
resources.
With all of the devastation happening in the world, especially in Haiti,
our hearts go out to all people affected. We should not forget that
God's creatures also need our help. Only 1% of all charities goes to
help animals.
Hebrews 4:13 states: "No creature is concealed from him, but everything
is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an
account."
May God bless all who are helping people and animals
all over the world.
