LOST / FOUND ANIMALS:

People often express a desire to take in a stray animal and want advice on the best way to do this. We tell them to first take the animal to a veterinarian to be spay/neutered and given a complete physical. If necessary, crate the animal till he has calmed down

If another cat is already in the home, crate the new cat and place her in the same room as the resident cat. Eventually they will accept one another. When you are comfortable with the way they act to each other, you can open the crate door and let the stray come out when she is ready. It may take a few days, but it will happen.

Always carry a leash and food to rescue lost animals. If you want to try and find the animal's guardian, contact shelters, police, animal control and veterinary offices. Place fliers with photo and contact information in neighborhood store. The most productive method is to put fliers in every mailbox; which will get everyone's attention. Each day, expand your search a few blocks. Use social media to your advantage - Facebook, Twitter, etc can all be an enormous help. If you receive a phone call, make sure the area is plastered with your fliers. It may take a couple of months...but DON'T GIVE UP.
