17 December 2011 Issue:

Christmas is the time for giving. Most people like to include puppies and kittens as gifts.

Unfortunately, many times the receiver doesn't like the type of pet chosen and would've preferred choosing their own pet. Puppies and kittens are cute when they're small but they don't stay that way very long. Often times they lose their appeal especially when given to younger children who don't realize the responsibility that goes along with having a pet. These unwanted animals usually end up in a shelter or worse-the street.

Keep in mind over 3 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year. At one time they too were puppies and kittens. If you are thinking of giving a pet as a gift this holiday season please choose to get an adoption certificate from a shelter so your loved one can save the life of a puppy or kitten in need.

Adopt-don't buy!

Please remember Habitat For Strays in your holiday giving.

With many thanks,

Richard Dinee

President
