Feedback from the students of Worthington Kilbourne High School, Columbus, Ohio - September 28, 2006

Student - 37

Summary:

  • The situation of the tiger species is becoming more and more precarious. For the South China tiger, the number has gone down from several thousand to fewer than 20 over the last 40 years.
  • Villagers are cutting down their trees as an energy source, causing deforestation.
  • Mr. Marr has spent much of his life trying to help the Bengal tiger of India.
  • Mr. Marr often uses media as a key campaigning resource.
  • The youth of this world is the hope for the future. They are the one to make it or break it.

Opinion:

Anthony Marr over the last years has been helping the tigers of India to survive. The population of tigers over the last decades has gone down drastically and if no one does anything about it, we will no longer have any tigers on our planet. Anthony Marr says that even one person can help to promote the cause. One could also help the established organizations, as long as its overhead does not go much higher than 10% (some go up to over 50%).

I think Mr. Marr came very prepared. He is a very good speaker and lectures all over the world. I liked everything he had to show. I was amazed at some of the facts he presented, such as that tigers often fail 20 times before succeeding in a hunt, and that one bullet could kill three or four tigers if the one killed first is a mother with cubs.

Mr. Marr is a vegan, but he did not push his life style on us as if we were monsters. And the way he works with the Indian villagers is also not a condescending one. I learned a lot from his coming to our school.
