Letter from Phil About Namibian Seal Hunt

As a lawyer involved with animal charities and the media, I am aware of worldwide reports causing severe damage to your country’s reputation for allowing the brutal treatment of seals. I refer to one report in the link below.

You will be aware of the ban on all Canadian seal products into the EU which came about due to enormous pressure by millions of EU citizens against seal-culling, so you should be aware of the risk of boycotts of any of your country’s goods, not just seal products, from the millions of people all over the world who care deeply about animal welfare issues and who are disgusted to be seeing what abuse is happening in your country.

I have tried sending this e-mail to members of the Namibian government but I don’t think they are getting through, so if you wish to give a copy of my e-mail to government contacts you have or anyone else please feel free to do so.

Phil

Hi Peter...

Thanks for your efforts to help end the vicious Namibian seal hunt. I’m sorry your messages aren’t getting through.

The best information we can give you is to provide links to the three groups we know who are working directly on this issue (and have been for years):

South African Seal Saving Initiative
http://www.sassi.org.za/index.html

Pat Dickens at Sea Shepherd Conservation Society
http://www.seashepherd.org/

Seal Alert SA
http://sealalertsa.wordpress.com/
(Francois Hugo has been working on this issue for decades)

If you contact them, I’m sure they can give you contact information for government officials. Since the government has been approving this hunt for years, that may or may not be your best course of action.

Please reach out to those three organizations (above) and ask for their input about what would be the best use of your time and energy.

Thank you for taking action for animals!

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
