Genesis 1:29-31 - God's Commandment to Live in Peace
God created the whole of creation to be peaceful; a place where there would be no death, and where all created beings would only eat plant foods. The earth was created to be a place of compassionate living. Note what we are told in Genesis 1:29-31.
29 Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;
30 and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to every thing that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food "; and it was so.
31 And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And
there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
God's creation intent was that we would eat only plant foods. It was not an option, for God said in verse 29, "it SHALL be food for you." The word shall makes it a commandment, and removed the option of eating anything else. Humans and other animals were not to eat one another, and God considered this way of living to be very good.
So, if we truly want to be on this journey to compassionate living, it must begin in our heart, mind, soul, and spirit. We must truly desire not to be a cause of any suffering or death of any other living being. It must begin with what we eat and wear. It must begin with what we put on our plates.
