The mission of the Mid-Hudson Vegetarian Society, Inc. is to promote the vegetarian ethic in the Mid-Hudson (New York) region, educate the community and aid anyone in the pursuit of a totally vegetarian (vegan) cruelty-free and healthful lifestyle. Articles - Letters - and More
Appearing on Wednesday May 24, above the masthead, "Burgers Highlight Memorial Day Fare". Also on page one a large photo, "La Grange is pleasant to pheasant". These is a disconnect, albeit a common one. A pheasant is lovely to look at and thus admired. But cows are just here to be slaughtered. (someone will probably answer that they do kill pheasants.) For those who extol the beauty of golden pheasants why is chicken in your pot or on your plate OK? Turning to the Busy Cook section and checking out the four burger recipes, we find three of them have cheese also. One of them features two kinds of cheese plus bacon. So not only do these recipes support the cruelty of factory farming they are loaded with cholesterol , calories and saturated fat. For the health of your reader and the welfare of animals everywhere, how about at least one veggieburger recipe to show that there are alternatives. Roberta Schiff |
