The Dominion of Love:
Animal Rights Advocacy According to the Bible
Norm Phelps, spiritual outreach director of The Fund for Animals, has written a readable, honest, and fully researched book called "The Dominion of Love - Animal Rights Advocacy According to the Bible," which attempts to encourage all who revere the Bible as holy scripture to open their hearts to the suffering that we inflict upon our nonhuman neighbors. He shows that the rights of animals not to be imprisoned and killed for our benefit flows naturally from the Bible's message of love and compassion. He also argues that this is the message of the Bible's most important passages dealing with our relationship to animals.
As we examine the teachings of love, kindness and compassion at the core of every religion, it is hard to understand why most religious groups do not take a stand for animal rights. Phelps' book is compelling and cogent and has the power to make a difference. This book will increase your own knowledge of the biblical connection to animal rights and help when discussing this issue with others.

Oblong Books in Rhinebeck will cosponsor a book talk and signing with
Norm Phelps. The date has not been set, but help is needed to contact
local clergy and other groups to inform them of this program. Call
