Annual Vegetarian Thanksgiving Day Feast
This 19th Annual Hudson Valley Vegetarian Thanksgiving Day Feast will combine old and new traditions. After several years in Kingston, we will gather on the other side of the river, starting at 1:00 PM, at the United Methodist Church in Red Hook, New York. We thank Judy Gelardi for finding this new location. The church is on Route 199, one block west of the one and only traffic light in Red Hook ? an accessible and easy-to-find location.
This year's feast will be potluck ? a great chance to try a new recipe or show off your vegetarian culinary skills. MHVS will provide beverages, breads, salad, delicious stuffing that has never been inside a bird, cranberries, and sweet potatoes. We ask our guests to bring an ample serving of a festive vegan holiday side or main dish (no meat, fish, poultry, dairy, eggs or honey). Please include an index card with your name and the name of your dish (be creative!). Include also the recipe or a list of ingredients. Facilities for reheating will be available.
Once again, we will hold a vegan dessert contest with prizes. If you wish to enter, please bring a dessert along with your other dish. Last year's offerings were varied and spectacular.
In addition to the good food and fellowship, Eric E will play his original compositions for classical and flamenco guitar during dinner.
Volunteers are needed for preparation and setup on Wednesday and on Thursday morning, and for the ever unpopular but most necessary cleanup.
This year we are asking everyone to bring his or her own table service (plates, cup, glasses, silverware, and napkins) to show our concern for the environment and to make cleanup faster and easier.
The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for teens, and free for children aged 12 and under. To attend without bringing a dish, the cost is $25. Families and non-vegetarians are always welcome, and we will have a singles table.
