June 14, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Woodstock Farm
Animal Sanctuary presents their June Jamboree. There will be
great vegan food, live music and farm tours. Admission is $10. MHVS
doesn't have an official job at this event, but members are encouraged
to support Woodstock F.A.S. by attending or volunteering. Woodstock Farm
Animal Sanctuary is on Van Wagner Road, off Route 212, west of Woodstock
in the hamlet of Willow. Visit www.woodstockfas.org for details.
On June 28, the Veg Society steps
out to support Catskill Animal Sanctuary in its annual Shindig event.
MHVS provides the food concession for the Sanctuary's biggest
fundraising event. Volunteers are needed for any of three activities:
Food service/sales at the event; food preparation in advance of the
event (we make large batches of pasta salad, hummus wraps, etc.), and;
dessert preparation (make your favorite vegan desert and package it in
individual servings to sell). The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at
the Sanctuary, 316 Old Stage Road, Saugerties. Food service volunteers
are asked to commit to a two-hour shift. Set-up begins by 10 a.m.
Whether you volunteer or not, please consider attending the Shindig.
It's a great chance to meet the animals and learn about the critical
work done by CAS.
July 20, Dog Days of Summer Picnic at
North/South Lake Park in Haines Falls. The Veg Society provides veg
hotdogs, watermelon, and soft drinks. Bring a summery vegan dish to
share. The park charges a $7 per-car day use fee (car pooling
recommended). North/South Lake features swimming, boat rentals, fabulous
views and hiking trails. We'll also play frisbee and volleyball (badly).
Companion animals welcome (except on the beach).
August 23, Save the date for a Veg-B-Q
at Robine Henderson & Nate Williams' spread up in the wee hamlet of New
Kingston. Details later via email.
September 20, Colonie Café, Woodstock.
Mark your calendars for a Bizarro evening of laughs with funny guy Dan
Pirraro. Dan is not only the personality behind the pen that draws
Bizarro, he is also a heck of a stand-up comic. Oh, and he's a vegan.
And he's a friend of Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. So when MHVS
sponsors the gig in Woodstock, we'll pass the proceeds on to our friends
at the sanctuary. More details will follow.
