Elsa, Bessie and Tofu

tofu1.jpg (197014 bytes)May 17, 2001- Elsa (black and white Holstein), Bessie, and Tofu (mother and daughter) also arrived from New York having been rescued in February from a starvation case similar to Bindy-Sue's. In the past few months they have managed to put some weight back on however both adults still need a lot of good feeding time to get to a healthy condition.  Tofu is the "tired" one in the photo (left).

Because of overcrowding at the SPCA, these cows were confined in a barn until their transport to our farm. How wonderful it is to see them out enjoying the sunshine and grazing in the fields. Tofu ran and played for her first few hours here though she still likes to curl up in the barn, the hay feeder, or a large tire for a nap. We think it makes her feel more secure.

tofu2.jpg (66397 bytes)We look forward to giving all three of these special cows a safe and happy environment for them to live out the rest of their days without fear or hunger.

Update 7 August 2001 - Just a short note on one of our cows that came in April.  Tofu was the baby that came to us (top photo) from the starvation/neglect case out of New York State.  She is still slightly timid although she has come a long way and she and her companions are all putting on lots of weight and enjoying their huge pastures and equine friends!  (current photo - left)

New Hope Sanctuary for the Animals is a rescue, haven, and adoption organization for abused, tortured, and abandoned innocent animals and pets. We are based on the Christian principles that God intended humans to follow as guardians of His creation.  We are a not-for-profit welfare, protection, rescue, rights organization dedicated to the compassionate care of stray and abandoned cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, litters, and farm animals (chickens, pigs, etc.).  We encourage people to adopt and provide kind and loving care for a cat, dog, kitten, puppy, or litter, as well as to   promote humane population control through spaying and neutering.  We are involved in direct action in rescuing and placing animals within a network of animal groups across the nation, and in increasing public awareness and education about the abuse, torture, factory farming, slaughtering, butchering and the murder of innocents, and the need to spay and neuter.  Through the media, special events, and publications we   promote anticruelty, love, compassion, mercy, respect, and kindness towards all animals, animal theology, and compassionate alternatives to animal products.
