FUR BEARING ANIMALS

FUR

The wearing of fur coats and accessories continues to be a contentious issue. In the last 15 years there has been so much information out there to educate people about the cruelty in wearing fur that it boggles the mind to see it still being worn. It does not make you look beautiful, it makes you appear ugly, cruel, insensitive and shallow. Many animals have to die to make one fur coat. It is further mind boggling to see people walking dogs while wearing a fur coat or a cloth coat with a fur trim. It might just be a small amount – but animals die for fur trim also – it does not grow on trees. And cats and dogs are used for fur in China and parts of Europe.

PRECIOUS KITTIES JUST LIKE THESE ARE USED FOR THEIR COATS

Because we are just launching this web site with an emphasis on the carriage horse issue, we do not now have time to properly address the other issues that are important in NYC and to give them the credit they are due.

In the interim, we present some NYC resources that work directly on this issue. They either table, which is to present educational information to passers-by on the street, – or they hold periodic demonstrations against businesses that still sell fur.

PLEASE CONTACT THEM AND GET INVOLVED. FUR IS NOT A SEASONAL ISSUE.

In the meantime – we present quotes from two well know people:

The late Oleg Cassini – fashion designer “ in referring to designing clothes for Jacqueline Kennedy and telling her that she should wear a leopard coat, Cassini said later in life “Although it was a fabulous hit with the fashion world at the time, I realized later, with sorrow, that a quarter-million leopards had been killed in order to enable this fashion trend … [animals] continue to be needlessly slaughtered to satisfy the demands of thoughtless people who themselves remain entrapped in unnecessary fashion." Oleg Cassini, NY Post, May 13, 1999.

Gretchen Wyler – actress and animal advocate - describing when Zsa Zsa Gabor came backstage to see her after a show. “She said, 'Oh, Gretchen, I love what you're doing for animals, because I love animals too.' I said to her, 'Zsa Zsa, you love dogs and cats. Don't you know you're standing there in 25 dead foxes?' She sort of laughed — and stopped wearing fur.”

MANHATTAN – Tabling on 17th St. and Park Avenue South (north of Union Square)
