Poems of compassion dedicated to the non-human animals who share this planet
with us and the people who fight for them.
Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all
evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still
savages.
(Thomas A. Edison)
So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do so to them; for
this is the law and the prophets.
(Matthew 7:12)
Asesinato
In Spain, they hang dogs.
Each year, thousands of “galgos”
Meet a brutal end;
Hunters tie them up in trees -
Leave them dangling from nooses.
Swim-With-The-Dolphins
Japanese dolphins
Are forced into coves:
Corralled and cut up alive.
Twenty-thousand die each year.
The rest sent to marine parks.
Cut Price
Zimbabwe’s mass sale:
Wild animals to be sold now.
A price on their heads.
Elephants sent to China -
(For their ‘ivory.’)
Fluffy Jumper
‘Angora’ rabbits
Have all their soft fur ripped out.
Silent beings scream.
They shake and bleed, in dire pain -
For the sake of a sweater.
Eat, Drink and Be Merry
We smoke, drink, gorge, stress -
Then search for cures for cancer.
Rats, mice, dogs…in hell.
Licensed torture in ‘science’ labs,
For hard drugs that just don’t work.
