We cooked the portabella mushroom steaks in our microwave oven, but they can also be cooked in a conventional oven at 350 degrees F.

Wash and clean the portabella mushrooms.  With a knife, carefully remove the stems by cutting about the stem where it joins the cap.

Wash, peel, and dice the onion.

Split the portabella mushroom stems in half lengthwise, and coat the caps and stems with the barbeque sauce.  Place the caps upside down in a class or ceramic baking dish, and put the stem pieces between them.

Add additional barbeque sauce on top, if desired, and sprinkle on the diced onions.

Place the uncovered baking dish in the oven and cook until the mushrooms are tender.

Serve and enjoy!

These portabella mushroom steaks also make great sandwiches.

The above recipe is in keeping with God's creation intent (Genesis 1:29-31):  'Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.  And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground-- everything that has the breath of life in it-- I give every green plant for food." And it was so.   God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.' (NIV)  Let no animal suffer or die that we may live!
