Breaking the Law II, Animal Care in U.S. Labs: Government Sanctioned Negligence

Specific Facilities - Boehringer Ingelheim
The
Boehringer Ingelheim pharmaceutical company had 19
violations in the areas of veterinary care, housing, IACUC, etc. These
violations include incidents wherein a dog on study lost 27% of his/her
body weight in 35 days with a fever of 103 – 106 degrees (5/4/05):

Veterinary care violations included another incident
where a primate lost the skin off both hands leading to finger
amputation (same date):

And in the area of animal handling episodes led to the
scalding death of a monkey in a age washer, a beagle asphyxiated, a
rhesus monkey developed a hemothorax due to improper handling, and
another monkey was burned due to negligence (same date):
