Reports Oregon Health Sciences University/Oregon National Primate Research Center The 2003 progress report for the Oregon National Primate Research Center states that “Currently, 958 animals (approximately 55% of our indoor population are paired. Of these, 752 are in full pairs and 206 are in grooming contact pairs.” This statement needs to be examined further. Looking at this conversely, 45% of the primates 784 are in total isolation, and 206 have contact with other members of their species only through the bars of a cage. This sounds much more like a prison than an animal care facility.
