Cruelty and Waste on a National Scale
Primate experimentation in the United States is out of
control. In the last ten years the number of
primate experiments funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
has increased by 76%. Statistics based on
data published by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)
reveal that primate experimentation in the
U.S. has reached an all time high with over 120,000 of our closest
relatives suffering and dying in laboratories during the last two years.
Repetition is rampant among NIH-funded projects. Currently 170
National Institutes of Health projects study neural information
processing in macaque monkeys. 75 grants fund examinations of cocaine in
primates. 70 experiments examine vision in macaque monkeys. These
experiments continue for decades wasting millions of tax dollars and
victimizing primates for an entire lifetime.
Animal Abuse in Yale Laboratories

Hundreds of primates are imprisoned within the
laboratories of Yale University every year. USDA reports reveal the
depravities practiced on intelligent macaque monkeys at Yale.
During one recent year 22 primates at Yale were
purposely deprived of water and 65 were purposely deprived of food.
Experiments at Yale subject primates to highly invasive brain-mapping
studies. Other Yale projects force monkeys to ingest addictive drugs
like cocaine and PCP.
Charles Bruce is has been experimenting on primates at Yale since at
least 1983. In that time he has squandered an estimated $3.4 million
federal tax dollars. During these
experiments recording cylinders are attached to the skulls of primates,
electrodes are fed into their brains, and they are confined to restraint
chairs.
Serious discrepancies exist in documents filed by Yale officials. A
recent Yale report listed a total of 103 primates. However, a USDA
inspection report for the same period disclosed a Yale inventory that
included 205 primates.
