Southwest Biolab cat deaths elicit SAEN outrage

The accidental death of ten cats in a Las Cruces laboratory has drawn the ire of a watchdog organization.

A USDA inspection report revealed that that a mechanical failure at Southwest Biolab’s Las Cruces facility resulted in the deaths of ten housed cats.

Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! (SAEN) has released the report to New Mexican news media centers and is calling for stiff fines against the lab.

“Negligence at this lab literally cooked ten cats to death,” said Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T., Executive Director, SAEN. “This facility should face the maximum penalty allowable under the law.”

SAEN filed an official complaint with the USDA, demanding a full investigation and a severe fine.
