From Oregon Public Broadcasting 4/26/02 Protest Over Funding for Animal Testing By Jeff Brady PORTLAND, OR 2002-04-26 (OPB News) - Animal rights activists
demonstrated outside the Oregon Primate Research Friday to highlight the
release of a report on how much the National Institutes of Health spends
on animal experiments. Elaine Close of the Coalition to Abolish Animal
Testing says the agency spends about $8 billion a year on 29,000
experiments. Close believes many researchers continue to perform
experiments simply to justify continued funding. © Copyright 2002, Return to Media Coverage |
