Outreach 2005
During 2005 Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! staff will
take part in two major conferences that will inform, educate, and train
activists within the animal rights movement.
The Vegetarian Summerfest takes place in Johnstown, PA
from June 29th – July 3rd. This conference brings together hundreds of
people who are interested in vegetarianism for five days of workshops on
health, cooking, and animal & environmental issues. SAEN staff will
participate in two presentations - Using the Internet to Get Our Message
Out and The Facts About Animal Experimentation.
The Animal Rights 2005 (AR2005) conference is in Los
Angeles and runs from July 7th – 11th. SAEN staff will help to present
six workshops and panels at the conference. They include: Abuse of
Animals in Laboratories (an introduction to the issue using videos),
Effective Research (how to investigate animal abuse issues), Abusing Our
Cousins (non-human primate issues), Research Campaigns (reports on
anti-animal research projects), Effective Tactics for Research Campaigns
(how to fight animal experimentation), and Animal Welfare Act (current
issues involving enforcement of the AWA). On July 11th, SAEN is also
organizing a post-conference protest against UCLA’s animal
experimentation with the help of several other groups, including Last
Chance for Animals and Orange County People for Animals.
Our goal in attending these conferences is to further
educate activists across the U.S. about the criminal abuse that is an
integral part of every animal experiment. We also hope to train
individual activists to better target and expose animal laboratories in
their areas. Additionally, we hope to be able to network with activists
to promote wider participation in SAEN campaigns.
We hope to see many SAEN supporters at these
conferences. If you plan to attend either of these events, we hope to
see you at our presentations. Also, please stop by the Stop Animal
Exploitation NOW! table and say hello.
