Iowa City, IA - In the wake of last November's raid at
the University of Iowa by an underground animal rights group, a national
research watchdog organization has called a major news conference
THURSDAY, Feb. 10 at 1:15p.m. at Spence Laboratories of Psychology Main
Entrance, 308 East Iowa Ave.
The news conference will reveal instances of UI
efforts to mislead the public, according to Cincinnati-based SAEN, a
nonprofit organization which investigates the treatment of animals in
U.S. research laboratories.
Documents detailing UI primate experimental procedures
will be released at the news conference as well as government records
which list UI animal use data.
"We hope to provide new and vital information
regarding the UI and the raid," said Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T.,
Executive Director of SAEN.
"Half-truths have been perpetuated by UI in recent
media coverage. UI animal experiments are not about science, but more
about attracting federal funding to UI," added Budkie.
The news conference will be conducted by SAEN's
Midwest Coordinator.
