Monkey Maimings, Watchdog Group Demands Tour of Alpha Genesis – Files
Federal Complaint
Beaufort/Charleston, SC – A
national research Watchdog organization has demanded a tour of the Alpha
Genesis facilities in Yemassee, SC. A Federal complaint has also been
filed against Alpha Genesis with the United States Department of
Agriculture.
The controversy swirling around
the Alpha Genesis laboratory is based on the maiming of primates within
this laboratory. Documents obtained from Alpha Genesis customers have
revealed the dismemberment of 4 primates. Medical records reveal that
all 4 of these animals were missing fingers and/or toes.
Significant information has also
been provided by a whistleblower from the Alpha-Genesis facility,
alleging substantial negligence by Alpha Genesis staff.
The complaint alleges abuse of
primates at the large facility, as well as utilization of unqualified
personnel, and carelessness in the November death of an infant primate
at the facility.
“According to our source a young
female primate died of negligence at the Alpha Genesis lab late in
2007,” said Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T., Executive Director, SAEN.
“Apparently when this animal died all of her bones were readily
visible. It appears that she had been starved.”
Other issues at the lab center
around unqualified staff and the decomposition of primates after death.
According to the inside source, primates are deliberately left outside
in the elements after death to allow partial decomposition of the corpse
to prevent accurate post-mortem analysis.
“Many serious concerns have
arisen about this facility,” added Budkie. “It is time for CEO Greg
Westergaard to step up to the plate and let the
public know what is going on inside this facility.”
SAEN has contacted Alpha Genesis
to arrange the tour as well as the USDA to demand an investigation of
all allegations of abuse and negligence.
