Children's Hospital Negligence kills lambs; Watchdog Group files Official Complaint, Demands Additional Citations and Federal Fine
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Recently obtained federal reports reveal that
negligence at the Children’s Hospital lab has killed several lambs in
violations of federal law.
A USDA report dated 1/30/12 recounts an incident in which improper
feeding killed several animals, and a USDA source has confirmed that
three sheep succumbed. The report which recounts this incident
reveals that the lambs were improperly fed and had to be euthanized.
“The negligence at the Children’s Hospital cost one two lambs to die,”
said Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T., Executive Director, SAEN. “This
facility should pay the most severe penalty allowable under federal
law.”
SAEN has contacted the Eastern Regional Office of USDA/APHIS/AC to
demand that additional citations and a fine be issued against the
Children’s Hospital.
“If this facility can’t even manage to feed animals properly, then what
does that say about their ability to follow a protocol or perform
accurate experiments,” added Budkie. “It is shocking that they
can’t even perform basic animal husbandry.”
All USDA reports are available upon request from SAEN.
