Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! June 7, 2005 Dr. Elizabeth Goldentyer Dr. Goldentyer, I am contacting you today to request an official and immediate investigation of the laboratories of the University of South Florida, specifically with respect to the care of primates. On May 30th Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! received an anonymous complaint that alleges severe neglect and mistreatment of primates within the laboratories of the University of South Florida. The primates in question have apparently arrived with a Dr. Hansen from Maryland. The anonymous communication that we received said that five (5) of these primates had died without any attention from the principle investigator who was vacationing for an extended period. This communication specifically mentioned one primate that had been sick for an extended period and should have been humanely euthanized. Instead, this unfortunate animal was allowed to suffer and die without treatment. I ask that you investigate this situation immediately and take the harshest action that is provided for by the Animal Welfare Act. Judging by the statement that we received, the situation at the University of South Florida is grave. The very lives of these primates are in your hands. Sincerely, Michael A. Budkie, A.H.T.,
