I Know I Will See Courtney Again

I too had a special friend for 13 years. Her name was Courtney. She was my constant companion and our lives just meshed together. She had a bad heart and I knew her time was close. I tried several times to take her to the vet and have her put down but each time I told myself, "you know she seems a little better today"
She didn't get better.
She waited for me to come home from work one Saturday. I carried her outside to go potty and carried her back into the house. She looked up at me and I could tell she was going to leave me. I sat down on the floor next to her and held her head in my lap. I told her I loved her and Thanked her for being such a good friend. She breathed her last breath and I felt so all alone.
About a year later we got a puppy but like you, she doesn't take the place of Courtney. She's a wonderful dog but the connection isn't there. Anyhow I just wanted to tell you that I understand. I know someday I too will see my dog again and I know she anxiously awaits.
