Your message was very inspiring Nia. I have a couple of family members who will agree with my convictions wholeheartedly yet their actions speak very different. It hurts to know there are people out there who outspokenly display empathy for this world but refuse to change their behavior even just a little.
You are right, It is uncomfortable being around people who just do not care, do not want to talk about it and ignore the issue over and over again. However, It is even harder for me because my family does not take me seriously, will not listen to anything I have to say and refuse to even bring up any issue relating to the plight of another. Moreover, they are still my family and I have to be strong enough to forgive them, stick with my beliefs and move on.
I am here on this earth to influence others by making compassionate choices, not to change others. It is not my responsibility to change peoples behavior. The majority of this world's priority is not to end the suffering of people and animals. It is very difficult for me to even address my thoughts on sensitive issues without getting very upset and insecure. I suppose I have growing up to do, but this world and its people are harsh and equal compassion towards the world is not a popular topic these days.
Through all of this, I have learned people may care more than we think and with the right attitude towards others and positive energy things will get better in time. Being sad about suffering is a good thing and it creates change inside and out.
Love and peace,
