Vigil for Laboratory Animals at University of California, Berkeley

Twenty-nine years ago, on April 20th 1985, a monkey named Britches was rescued, along with 1,115 other animals, from an animal experimentation facility at University of California, Riverside. He was five weeks old; he had been taken from his mother and was completely alone. Britches' eyes were sewn shut and a device strapped to his bandaged head and ears that emitted a high-pitched screech every few minutes.

Every day, billions of other animals suffer to the degree that Britches did. The only unique thing about Britches' story is that he was rescued. There remain millions of animals in laboratories in the U.S. and billions around the world who experience abuse, cruelty, and are murdered at the hands of humans.

Please join us in holding a vigil outside of UC Berkeley's offices for the Animal Care and Use Committee, to remember those killed in the past, to give voice to those tortured and held captive now, and to give hope for a future where every animal is free.

Message:

For many years, UCLA has refused to provide information about animals being used in drug experiments such as methamphetamine addiction and neurological experiments. The refusal to disclose public information violates the California Public Records Act (CPRA). UCLA receives a staggering $200 million plus annually of taxpayers money to fund animal experiments.

UCLA has a history of violating federal law concerning animal welfare regulations. During a period of April 2012 to July 2013, SAEN uncovered 10 instances of  non-compliance  and one of  serious deviation  of the Public Health Service Policy on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals at UCLA.

Please wear walking shoes, wear sun protection and bring water. Dogs are welcome but please make sure they are capable of walking and have water on hand.

Message:

This event is a week before World Week for Animals in Labs because the Salk Institute is having a huge fundraiser, walk, and "public education" day that includes talks from the researchers and tours of the labs. A lot of people and media will be present so it's a good time to demonstrate! We do not advocate going onto the private property of the torture facility - if you do, you do so at your own risk of any ramifications. We will demonstrate on the public sidewalks and do not plan to block any of the "walk" participants.

Message:

Please join caring Chicagoans as we expose Northwestern University's negligence and cruel experiments like the one described below, published online March 7, 2013:

Adult, normal hearing cats (4 6 months old, Liberty Research, Inc.), which were purpose-bred for research, were used for the experiments. Three needle electrodes were placed under the skin measured relative to a ground electrode placed in the neck. Sound levels, at each frequency, began at the loudest speaker output. The loudest speaker output varied from 71 dB to 101 dB. The ABR electrodes were connected to a differential amplifier with a high-input impedance, set at 10,000x amplification.

Does that sound humane to you? Signs and flyers will be provided.  All we need are compassionate people willing to give a short hour of their time for animals suffering behind lab doors.

Message:

For World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week, the Animal Rights Coalition will kick off their campaign "No Pain In My Name" at the University of Minnesota, where for the past 30 years, Dr. Marilyn Carroll has been forcibly addicting primates, rats, and mice to nicotine, alcohol, and "street drugs" to induce cravings and observe their painful withdrawal, all on the taxpayer's dime. To date, she has NOTHING to show for her years of research except a body count of abused animals.

We are asking that attendees make one sign each specific to the campaign. Possible sign text includes the following:

-No Monkey Junkies
-Forced Drug Withdrawal Is the Worst of All

-Primates, Rats, and Mice: Caged and Addicted with No Choice

-A Quarter Century + Tortured Animals + Millions of Dollars + Marilyn Carroll = No Results

-I Am an Addict, and I Don’t Want Your Help, Marilyn Carroll

 Message:

Almost every commercial airline in the world has stopped transporting primates to vivisection labs, yet ABX Air continues to transport shipments of thousands of primates at a time in order to make a quick profit -- with no concern for how the airline is facilitating the torture of these animals in labs.

The Bunny Alliance and our supporters in Ohio have organized a demonstration at the ABX Air headquarters in Wilmington, Ohio to bring the issue to their doors and demand that they cut their ties with the animal testing industry.

Please join us in protesting the transport of animals to vivisection labs where they are subjected to a life of torture and pain.

March and rally.

Join us on Saturday 26th April in Nottingham for this year's annual World Day for Animals in Laboratories March and Rally. Each year anti-vivisection campaigners and members of the public from across the UK and further afield, gather together to mark World Day for Animals in Laboratories. This is an opportunity to make our voices heard in opposition to the horrific vivisection industry, and also to raise crucial public awareness about the cruel reality of this industry that is hidden behind closed doors. Nottingham has been chosen as this year's hosting city. Each day in a Nottingham laboratory 80 animals die at the hand of vivisectors. We will be there raising public awareness of this - handing out thousands of flyers, marching peacefully around the city centre and rallying for speeches. Also, this year there will be a visual stunt (watch this space for details). Website and twitter accounts will be up and running in a few days.

Please help us promote this event and be a voice for the voiceless. Everyone welcome, see you there!
