Animal Rights Activists Allege Censorship Over Geese In Mamaroneck

From New York CBS Local
March 19, 2013

Theres a new controversy involving what to do with flocks of geese in one Westchester County town.

In the latest battle of the geese in Mamaroneck, animal rights activists believe theyre being censored.

Kylie Blackman told WCBS 880 reporter Sean Adams that e-mails with geese in the subject line are bouncing back.

The messages are coming back, I dont know if theyre going into any folders. You get a message that says your message is spam, she said.

The village explained that the e-mails are being treated as spam and that there are too many coming in from around the world.

Despite pleas that the village try to shoo the geese or addle their eggs, Mayor Norman Rosenblum said he stands by the decision to round them up so they can be turned into food for the homeless.

Its a health hazard in the parks, he says.

Its disgusting, and by the way, its not just the fields. Its on the beach. You try to clean it up as much as possible, but its getting out of hand. You have to control that flock and now that flock is out of hand because there are no natural predators, he told Adams.

The mayors mind is made up. Some village trustees are still on the fence.
