Stop Hunting

Hunting season statistics

Two items from NY State Conservation Advisory Fund minutes, November 2004:

There are currently 630,000 deer hunters in New York State with an average age of 49.

94% are male, have hunted 22 years and killed 10 deer.

NY is the only state that doesn't allow kids under 16 to hunt deer.

The number of licenses sold overall was down by 500,000 from 1.5 million the previous year.

The Conservation Fund is projected to be in the red again in a couple of years.

This year, the regular gun season for deer (in the southern zone) will start on SATURDAY November 19 as we allowed the legislature to pass a bill allowing the start of hunting season on the third Saturday. The regular gun season is now 23 days long.
