ADOW Meeting Announcement, March 11, 2013
There will be a meeting of the Mamaroneck Board of Trustees, which will
held on: 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall at 169 Mt. Pleasant Ave,
Mamaroneck NY 10543 Courtroom - Village Hall The public will
be allowed to speak on the proposed geese slaughter at this meeting
IN ADDITION: A few thoughts re the PATCH article today (The reporter
has added info re warning labels to the 'poor' who eat the geese flesh):
http://larchmont.patch.com/articles/mamaroneck-geese-on-death-row
- The reporter and I searched for poop (she wanted to take a photo); there
was almost none to be found. She then pointed to one - and I pointed out
that it could be DOG poop as well, hard to tell. Will MamK announce they're
killing dogs? Of course not. - Mayor Rosenblum states we can ''put
the geese in our own yards' if we wish - but we can't do it if he kills
them. - 'If they are given the green light to go ahead, said USDA
Spokesperson Tanya Espinosa,Geese are placed alive in commercial turkey
crates, and are taken to a poultry processor, where they are humanely
euthanized and processed for human consumption following the guidelines set
by New York State Agriculture and Markets, NYSDEC Bureau of Wildlife, and
New York State Health Department. - This must always be challenged; the
gassing and suffocation of geese and their babies is never humane. These
municipalities lie to the public to make themselves look good and make those
who support this brutality feel better - 'Rosenblum said that
officers on patrol in the area often have to bring an extra pair of shoes to
avoid tracking the goose waste into their homes and cars.' Police in other
venues have to deal with far, far worse than this, if its true.
*Note: Several current and former Mamk residents have mentioned the
on-going sewer-system problem, which is being downplayed by the Mayor. A
few described the smell in the vicinity of the system as being unbearable.
