Story insulting to Thailand

METRO
Tuesday, October 12, 2004

Regarding the story, "Travel Around Thailand," (Metro, Oct. 6) about the idiot who thought it was great to steer an elephant like a car:

The elephant is not an "it" -- she is a living, breathing sentient being who probably had babies that were stolen from her so that some human could make a profit from them.

She is not a block of wood, nor a "thing" you steer like a car. The term "Dumbo" is an antiquated Disney term that should go the way of "Amos 'n Andy" or "Little Black Sambo." Insulting literature and language of the past does not belong in an enlightened society.
