Letters Local foie gras laws are easier to enact Published in METRO (www.METRO.US)
9/7/06: Thank you for reporting that New Jersey has introduced legislation to ban
foie gras (8/29). To view the sad results of force-feeding to make foie
gras, visit stopforcefeeding.com. You will see birds with ruptured,
infected throats; birds whose livers are so swollen that they cannot walk
normally, but rather drag themselves along by their wings; you will see a
live bird, too weak to escape, being eaten by a rat. Though a ban on foie gras production is currently in the NYS legislature,
a similar ban is currently in Committee before the Westchester County Board
of Legislators. It should be easier to enact a local law on this topic than
at the state level; Westchester will be the first such venue. Kiley Blackman Fair Use Notice: This document may contain
