Before you take a carriage horse ride

Published in the NY Daily News
September 21, 2011

Before you take a carriage horse ride, take a good look at the horse, which is shackled from head to toe. A metal plate in his mouth is attached to a series of bolts, straps and blinders that entirely circle his face; yanking on the straps directs him; a neck brace and two heavy planks shackle him to the 800 pounds of weight he drags for long hours through exhaust fumes, honking cars, screaming drivers, heat, cold, etc. This is cruelty and shouldn't be patronized.
