Tuckahoe, N.Y.: Although I know Voicer Julio E. Rivera suggested people complain about Yonkers Raceway just to take attention away from the carriage horse issue, he’s right: The horses at Yonkers Raceway — and every race track — have terrible lives in that scandal-ridden industry. They are overbred, forced to run on underdeveloped legs, whipped to make them run faster — and finally sent to horrible auction- and slaughter-houses when they’re not profitable anymore.
In fact, it’s likely (there’s little tracking information available) that some of those same racehorses are now dragging a thousand pounds of carriage and people in Midtown traffic. But thanks for your concern, Julio.
Hopefully, you’re not patronizing race tracks or carriage-horse rides.
