DEC not fulfilling their intended role

Written in response to Letter to the Editor - More transparency needed before DEC culls - January 9, 2016

It should be the responsibility of the state to protect its wildlife from inhumane treatment. But ironically it is very often the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s Wildlife Services that is the perpetrator of cruelty.

The Right to Know Bill S2600/A7067 sponsored by State Sen. George Latimer is sorely needed to publicize the intentions of Wildlife Services to slaughter geese and turkeys at the taxpayers’ expense, and to require they propose humane alternatives.

Hopefully, some exposure will force the DEC to go about their job of environmental conservation instead of extermination and cruelty.
