CRISIS ALERT: The Pit Bulls Need Your Help
I am sending an appeal for help because the situation Catherine Hedges, well known champion of the Pit Bulls, is in has reached the crisis stage -- both in terms of the vet and kennel bills for her rescues but in terms of her health.
Catherine has been a champion of animals forever especially the Bully Breeds. She once ran the Furry Friends Foundation in Chicago and at one time had over 100 Pit Bulls in her care. The foundation was no-kill and she worked tirelessly to find homes for every dog she ever rescued. When Katrina hit there went Catherine down to Louisiana to help with rescue. On the way back to Chicago with a van full of animals she was involved in a car crash -- her injuries included a broken arm, pelvis, collar bone and several ribs. The person who was funding Furry Friends decided to shut down as Catherine was unable to do anything for a long time.
Catherine now runs a smaller version of Furry Friends but has no funding other than occasional donations from former adoptees and friends yet the needy animals keep coming (note the pathetic souls on her website.) Her kennel bill has skyrocketed as has the vet bill..
We hear the same story or variation all too often -- I donate to everyone in need even if it is only 5 or 10 dollars and even if I am a little short. The reason is because these people, this rare breed of rescue, this down-in-the-trenches warrior does what most of us can't or won't -- when an animal is down they are there. When an animal is in need of a life saving operation they are there. When there is an abuse situation and all hope is gone -- they are there. They are there when no one else is.
Catherine, tho she told me never to tell anyone, is not well which is all I can say. However, she continues to be the beacon of hope and the only life line the animals she hears need help will ever have.
Here is the link to her website which has a Paypal link -- tho I usually make a check out to her vet, Town and Country, and send it to her. Sometimes I send $5 -- sometimes a hundred. It all helps and 100% of anything Catherine gets always goes to the animals -- she uses nothing for anything other than vet and kennel costs.
Please crosspost to everyone you know and ask if they do the same and please give a true champion of rescue a helping hand.
