Tell your Congressional Representative to vote NO on House of Representatives (HR) Bill 875 - the Food Modernization Act. There are too many unanswered questions about the consequences. More study is needed before this should be passed.

Remember that all legislation impacting food always directly impacts animals.

Find your U.S. Representative here and call, fax and email them directly.

There is an enormous rush to get this into law passed (called Fast Track, the procedure used to push through and pass the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA).

From Food

This legislation requires all food producers to preregister in order to grow or sell food even if that food remains at the local level and is never transported across state lines

Hr 852 would create a new federal regulator called the Food Safety
Administration. Every food producer from corporations to roadside farm
stands would have to register with the FSA, and meet safety standards.

The accredited process for who qualifies or not under HR 875 will be outsourced from the new Food Safety Agency (FSA). Who will be doing the inspections? Agribusiness. Could Monsanto possibly  be in charge of testing, sampling and validating organic foods?

Each infraction could include a $1 million fine.

FSA can use the funds from fine to carry out further enforcement activities. The agency will therefore feed off itself to find more infractions.

Entire pretext is in the wording of the bill: "We’re addressing the needs of immune-compromised consumers.."

Why do we have that? Because the food industrial complex exists at a level of chemical agriculture, etc.

Food Safety (FSA) inspectors would be given free reign to examine and test all food products to ensure compliance.

It would also implement some extreme penalties $1 million in civil fines per food safety violation; up to 5 years in prison if someone gets seriously ill from the violation.

To be fair, the bill would create strict guidelines and oversight for large scale growers at equally large costs. The problem is that's a cost that could hamstring small growers forcing them to either dramatically raise their prices or go out of business all together.
