Contact Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Director of Communications Mary Croyle and Associate Director of Communications Danette Baker and ask them if TTUHSC has indeed replaced the use of cats in medical training with modern and humane simulators. We want confirmation!

For more than 20 years, Odessa Animal Control in Odessa, Texas, has been selling cats to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) for use in cruel medical training exercises. In the exercises, hard plastic tubes are repeatedly forced down cats' throats and needles are stabbed into their chests; the animals are then killed.

But this year—in the wake of an aggressive PETA campaign to urge the university to replace the use of cats with modern, human-like simulators—Odessa Animal Control says that TTUHSC has not yet asked it for cats, and PETA has also learned that TTUHSC has not used any cats for its training courses.

Has TTUHSC stopped using and killing cats?

While these developments are promising, given that TTUHSC has been abusing cats for such a long time, it cannot be assumed that the center has changed its ways without explicit confirmation from university officials.

Thank you for everything you do for animals!
