Don't let mega-tourism destroy Mexico's most precious coral reef.

A Spanish real estate company has plans to build a massive tourism complex right next door to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park in Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. Urge the Mexican government to protect the coral reef and marine life of Cabo Pulmo and deny authorization of the Cabo Cortés mega-tourism project.

Please do not allow the amazing reef system and marine life of Cabo Pulmo National Park to be destroyed by Hansa Urbana's mega-tourism project. Due to the efforts of the Mexican government and particularly the local community, Cabo Pulmo has been a shining example to the world of ocean conservation and sustainable ecotourism for 15 years. This is the time to continue Mexico's conservation efforts, not end them.

The proposed mega-tourism project would cover 9,500 coastal acres right next to the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park. The project includes the construction of 13,000 housing units, 3,655 hotel rooms, 2 million square feet of office and commercial space as well as marinas, private jet ports and three to five golf courses. A project of this size makes no sense environmentally, economically or socially and should be rejected definitively.

The Cabo Pulmo coral reef is home to the greatest abundance of reef fish and corals in the entire Gulf of California, and provides shelter for migratory whale sharks, humpback whales, giant manta rays and endangered sea turtles. The reef serves as a source of tourism income for the local community and acts as a nursery to increase fish size and population in adjacent areas, improving fishing livelihoods. This is absolutely the wrong place for a mega-project the size of an entire new city.

I strongly urge you to deny the authorization of environmental permits to Hansa Urbana for this project. I hope that you will maintain Mexico's commitment to protecting Cabo Pulmo as a national and global treasure and take action against this threat.

Thank you for everything you do for animals!
