No Golden Rule
Two days ago we talked about the golden rule, and how God wants us to live, but unfortunately there is no golden rule being applied in most cases. A case in point…
A few days ago Doris wrote to us and briefly expressed her innermost troubled feelings. She said in part:
“I drift away from the Lord because of all the animal suffering. I think, How Can He Let This Go On? Then I start thinking that there must not be a God (God forgive me for thinking and telling you this) for letting this happen to innocent creatures whom I adore. I drive by a dairy farm on my way to work, another if I have to go shopping, prisons for hundreds of cows.”
The community in which Doris lives certainly isn’t doing unto her as they want her to do unto them. And even more to the point, they are not doing to the cows and other animals she loves as they would want to be treated.
Doris is trying to be a peacemaking child of God; but the communities, including the churches, are leading her astray by their hard of heart actions. They are like the people Jesus spoke about in Matthew 18:5-6.
5. “And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me;
6. but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depth of the sea.
NASB
From Doris’ and our point of view the vast majority of these people certainly do not seem to be truly receiving Jesus in all his glory, rather they’re living in and contributing to the corruption of this earth.
What is happening to Doris and other peacemaking Christians is similar to what Paul spoke about in the temple as recorded in Romans 2:23-24.
23. You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God?
24. For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” just as it is written.
NASB
The church is not living according to the heavenly will of God as Jesus instructed us to do, and because they claim to be living as God’s children, even though they are not, they cause many of God’s real children to stumble.
Where is their living in the simplicity of The Golden Rule?
Where is their living as the loving and compassionate peacemaking children of God?
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be present in their lives – a tragedy of immense proportions.
It’s time we all wake up.

Beautifully said, Brother Frank. How selfish most “Christians” are that they happily offend others who do not see things the way they do because they are so immersed and conformed to the worldly culture.
We talked about having vegetarian food at a church event and the assistant pastor “didn’t want to offend anyone” and yet, he had no problem offending US, the vegans or other people who didn’t eat meat! Isn’t that such total hypocrisy? What he meant to say is that he didn’t want to offend anyone who was “normal”, as he saw it, like himself. So sad… So selfish…. So unlike the selfless servant, our Lord and Saviour who gladly humbled himself and became a servant, though He was the creator and King of the universe! We need more TRUE Christians who understand what it is to give up their lives to serve and represent their Lord.
Thank you, Elaine. Your conversation with this pastor exposes the major problem within the Christian church today. They are not truly following the teachings of Jesus, unless they coincides with their own agenda and lifestyles. This is not following the teaching of Jesus, but rather the deceptions of the devil.
