When we see a facility such as Tri-Town Packing repeatedly cited for the same violations, it is proof to us of the failure of the entire government animal welfare system, and the fallacy of people believing that there can ever be humane slaughter.<\/p>\n

Even the terms \u201chumane slaughter\u201d, \u201chumane meat\u201d, or \u201chappy meat\u201d are an oxymoron. Killing can never be humane or happy, for it deprives the animals of their God-given right to live and enjoy the life He created for them to have.<\/p>\n

On 4 February 2011, Tri-Town Packing slaughterhouse in Brasher Falls, New York was inspected by the USDA\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), and cited for repeated failure to protect the animals from injury. The report stated:<\/p>\n

Citation:<\/strong> At approximately 10:45am while performing an unscheduled 04C02 to verify the humane handling requirements Dr.____ noticed the following non-compliance. Pen #2, which was in disrepair, had 1 lamb inside the pen. The gate leading from the pen to the alley to the kill chute was boarded shut because the establishment was not going to use the pen until it is repaired. The front gate latch is broken and the gate was open. There are 2 bolts sticking out of a worn board between Pens #1 and #2 which could injure the animals in the pen. Retain tag #B30456764 was applied to the front gate of pen #2 and Mr.____ was notified of the non-compliance. He immediately moved the lamb to another pen. This non-compliance is a violation of 9 CFR 313.1(a) which states in part that, “Livestock pens, driveways and ramps shall be maintained in good repair. They shall be free from sharp or protruding objects which may, in the opinion of the inspector, cause injury or pain to the animals.” Past Similar NRs – Previous Ineffective Plant Actions: Pen not to be used until repairs can be performed.
