This is the 4th<\/sup> time we\u2019ve seen Tri-Town Packing repeatedly cited for the same violations; it is proof to us of the failure of the entire government animal welfare system, and the fallacy of people believing that there can ever be humane slaughter or humane meat.<\/p>\n

On 16 March 2011, Tri-Town Packing slaughterhouse in Brasher Falls, New York was inspected by the USDA\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), and cited for repeated failure to have water available for the animals. The report stated:<\/p>\n

Citation:<\/strong> While performing ante-mortem [before death] inspection at approximately 10:20 am on 10 Lambs in pen 5, 1 Dairy Cow in pen 4, and 1 Lamb in pen 1 found the following Non-Compliance. In each pen mentioned above there was no water available for the animals being held in each pen. This is a violation of 9 CFR 313.2 (e) which states: “Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens and, if held longer than 24 hours, access to feed. There shall be sufficient room in the holding pen for animals held overnight to lie down”. ____ was informed of the non-compliance and I informed him that no animals would proceed to slaughter until the animals were provided water and acceptable preventive measures were proposed. ____ immediately provided water to all the pens mentioned above and verbally proposed to make sure animals have water. After immediate corrective actions and preventive measures I informed ____ that the animals may proceed to slaughter. Past Similar NRs – Previous Ineffective Plant Actions: Kill floor employees to verify every 30 minutes that animals in pens have access to water. NR: 28-2010 dated 12\/6\/2010.<\/p>\n

Based on the last statement in the citation, it seems painfully obvious to us that Tri-Town Packing only used the previously stated corrective action to satisfy the inspector without really intending to put it into action. The whole system is broken.<\/p>\n

The only sure way to truly care for the welfare and rights of animals is to go vegan.<\/p>\n
