People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sent out an alert about the fact that the U.S. government continues to fund shockingly cruel, outdated, and inaccurate animal experiments to test the effects of nicotine\u2014even though studies of humans show that smoking cigarettes can cause disease in nearly every organ of the human body and even though the results of smoking and nicotine experiments on animals are inconsistent and often at odds with outcomes in human smokers.<\/p>\n

At Yale University, experimenter Marina Picciotto has received more than $17 million in taxpayer money since 1996 for experiments in which she forcibly exposes mice and rats to nicotine by injecting it into their abdomens, placing it directly into holes cut into their skulls, or forcing them to either drink water laced with the drug or die from dehydration. One study by Picciotto and her colleagues involved administering the equivalent of nicotine from up to 17 packs of cigarettes per day to monkeys.<\/p>\n

We believe that people are deliberately being duped into believing that experiments on animals are necessary for protecting human health. This report shows that it is not necessary. In fact, all testing on animals should end.<\/p>\n

In Psalm 12:10, we are told:<\/p>\n

10. A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal,
\nbut the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.
\nNIV<\/p>\n

It seems quite obvious to us that according to this Bible passage, Marina Picciotto, and those who support her work, are among the cruel and wicked people of this world; and we all need to stand up, speak out, and demand an end to their reign of terror.<\/p>\n
