Deer sunset-health and hunting. I saw a deer in my yard as I was watching the sunset a few nights ago. After a few minutes observing her, she looked up at my neighbors\u2019 yard and took off running towards the lake, where another deer joined her. The two darted across the frozen lake. I couldn’t help but to hold my breath as I watched; I wasn’t sure if the lake was solid enough to hold their weight. My mind was racing\u2014what would I do if they fell through the ice?<\/p>\n

I grabbed my phone in case I needed to call 911 and glanced around my house to check where my coat and boots were as I was mentally figured out how quickly I would be able to get to them on the ice, and what supplies I would need to help them. Luckily, I didn’t have to take action because they both made it safely to the other side of the lake.<\/p>\n

But, phewww! What a stressful few minutes.<\/h3>\n

Watching the deer last night really got me thinking: I can’t understand how someone could see such a beautiful being and think, “Oh, I’m going to shoot that animal.” It\u2019s terrible to kill something just because you can, and it’s completely unnecessary to kill an animal for food in America\u2019s modern society. There are more than enough other forms of food without taking another being\u2019s life. A vegan diet is well documented to be healthier than eating meat, which you can find more information about in our health<\/a> section.<\/p>\n

Hunting is ineffective because state wildlife management agencies intentionally keep the deer population high for hunters. In fact, lands managed for hunting are sometimes purchased and maintained with tax dollars, even though 95% of Americans do not hunt.
