Deuteronomy 6:6 Bible Commentary
\n<\/strong>And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart;<\/p>\n

This is part of an ancient Jewish commandment, but its message is universal, for to truly love God in this way we must also love the whole of His creation, too, which if we live this way, it is also in our heart and soul.<\/p>\n

By inclusion, this also became a Christian understanding, even if most people don\u2019t live it today.<\/p>\n

If we love the whole of creation, we can do it no harm. This is also an ancient Hindu teaching.<\/p>\n

And since these words are to be upon our hearts and in our souls, it is only natural to mourn the loss of these animals and those billions who continue to suffer and die every year.<\/p>\n

One of the problems in our human centered society is that we limit our understanding of love to only human relationships, or those between humans and companion animals, and we fail to realize that God and His created animals form these love bonds with each other, too.<\/p>\n

In essence, there is no time in our day when we should not be thinking of the Lord, for when we do this, we will be far less likely to stray away from God’s word and do any harm to His creation.<\/p>\n

However, we let the cares of the day and the stress of earning a living and the strain of raising our children distract us from the Lord, just as was happening to the Israelites.<\/p>\n

This is something that is missing from the people who have Christian indifference, for they fail to feel the pain and suffering that is happening to millions of humans and billions of animals every year.<\/p>\n

In other words, they lack empathy.<\/p>\n

These people may feel the pain and suffering of a select few, but if we are going to end Christian indifference, we need to feel the pain and suffering of the whole of God\u2019s creation and work diligently to end the carnage to humans, animals, and our environment.<\/p>\n

This unconditional love should be upon our heart and soul at all times.<\/p>\n
