Genesis 4:7 – Bible Commentary<\/strong>
\n“If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”<\/p>\n

Do you remember seeing the cartoons in which an angel sat on one shoulder of the character, and a demon sat on the other shoulder, each trying to convince the character what to do? This seems to be similar to the situation before us. Cain can master the demon who is knocking at the door.<\/p>\n

To further emphasize this God again intervened directly in trying to convince Cain not to do what he eventually did, but Cain does not seem to want to listen.<\/p>\n

The only one who is empowered by sin, suffering, the shedding of blood, and death is Satan; so the power of evil became stronger upon this earth. And that power continues to grow until this very day.<\/p>\n

Why?<\/p>\n

Because we are allowing evil to grow instead of taking a strong stand against it and all the forces of evil, and because the vast majority of people go along with the evil ways of the world, the forces of evil continue to be strong. However, these forces of evil can never become stronger than the power of God, and each and every one of us can call upon upon God’s power to overcome the forces of evil.<\/p>\n

It is to his sinful nature that Cain is actually showing accountability, for he obeys it instead of God, and he doesn’t want to give it up.<\/p>\n
