Living in the Will of God \u2013 15 The Quail Concession<\/h2>\n

If we continue from the Bible passage we looked at in part 14, we come to another of God\u2019s reluctant concessions, which we have called the quail concession. Note what we are told in Exodus 16:9-12\u2026<\/p>\n

9. Then Moses said to Aaron, “Say to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, ‘Come near before the LORD, for He has heard your grumblings.'”<\/p>\n

It is important for us to remember that the Lord is angry because of the grumblings of the people.<\/p>\n

10. And it came about as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.<\/p>\n

11. And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,<\/p>\n

12. “I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel; speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God.'”

Many pastors and other people mistakenly believe that the Lord gave them quail every day for the 40 years the people were in the wilderness, but if we read on we see that only the manna is talked about. The quail were a one day concession because of the people\u2019s unbelief and hardness of heart.<\/p>\n

Years later, the people grumbled again about their food as we are told in Numbers 11:4-6.<\/p>\n

4. And the rabble who were among them had greedy desires; and also the sons of Israel wept again and said, “Who will give us meat to eat?<\/p>\n

The rabble are those who are not living in the will of God and are stirring up trouble.<\/p>\n

5. “We remember the fish which we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers and the melons and the leeks and the onions and the garlic,<\/p>\n

6. but now our appetite is gone. There is nothing at all to look at except this manna. ”

This is proof that God\u2019s reluctant concession of giving the people quail in our Exodus passage was a one day event.<\/p>\n

However, the Lord did grant another one day concession, but this time with a severe penalty because of the people\u2019s grumbling and hardness of heart as we are told in Numbers 11:31-33.<\/p>\n

31. Now there went forth a wind from the LORD, and it brought quail from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, about a day’s journey on this side and a day’s journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits deep on the surface of the ground.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s important to note that live birds don\u2019t pile three feet (2 cubits) on top of each other in open ground; thus the birds had to be dead, and dead meat spoils very quickly without refrigeration.<\/p>\n

32. And the people spent all day and all night and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers) and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.<\/p>\n

33. While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very severe plague.

We believe at least part of the plague was caused by food poisoning, but it is very clear that the Lord was very angry about the people not living as the plant eaters they were to be in His creation and heavenly will.<\/p>\n

And, we also strongly believe that we are not to desire to live in the concession God reluctantly grants. His original intent has never changed, and in order to truly be living in the will of God today, we are to be vegans, as God created us to be, and cause no other living being to suffer or die.<\/p>\n

Since \"date\"
