After more than 25 years of working to end all forms of animal exploitation, we have found that most animal abusers are repeat offenders, such as the case of the institutionalized animal cruelty before us.<\/p>\n

On 29 Nov 2010, Joe Pagliuso & Bros., Inc., slaughterhouse in Ontario, New York was inspected by the USDA\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), and cited for not supplying water to animals waiting to be killed. The report stated:<\/p>\n

Citation:<\/strong> HAT Category III At approximately 1640 while performing odd hour inspection for the month of November I observed the following non-compliance. There were 4 lambs in the upper pens that had no water available in the pen. There was a bucket for water in the pens but it was completely empty. In the lower pens on the far north side there was approximately 10 lambs\/goats in a pen that did not have any water available. After informing of the non-compliance he had a slaughter floor employee immediately give water to the animals. This document serves as notice of non-compliance within Federal Regulation 9 CFR 313.2(e). Past Similar NRs – Previous Ineffective Plant Actions: Failure to ensure that animals in the pen area have access to water. NR: 20-2010 dated 10\/19\/2010

Note that this report cites a previous violation for not supplying water to animals in the pens on 19 Oct 2010 Institutionalized Animal Cruelty \u2013 S: Joe Pagliuso & Bros. \u2013 20101019<\/a>. When we see things like this, we always wonder how many times this occurred when the inspector was not there to observe the violation.<\/p>\n

The very nature of the business of raising and killing animals for food discourages having any empathy for the animals; for if they truly cared about the animals, they couldn\u2019t kill them. It is this lack of empathy that leads these people to forget or ignore whether or not the animals have water.<\/p>\n
