Institutionalized Animal Cruelty \u2013 S: SUNY Cobleskill Meat and Fisheries Process Lab \u2013 20120613<\/h2>\n

We found this example of institutionalized animal cruelty to be very interesting at the same time it was tragic.<\/p>\n

On 13 June 2012, the Meat and Fisheries Process Lab of the State University of New York (SUNY) Cobleskill Meat Processing, Cobleskill, New York was inspected by the USDA\u2019s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), and was cited for not properly stunning animals. The report stated:<\/p>\n

Citation:<\/strong> While performing Hat tasks stunning effectiveness at approximately 0825 I observed a student performing the stunning of a steer with the captive bolt stunner. The steer was stunned but the shot didn’t produce immediate unconsciousness with the first shot. The instructor immediately re-stunned the steer a second time and produce immediate unconsciousness. I informed that this is a noncompliance with regulation 313.15. No retain tag was applied to knocking box because Plant Manager verbally proposed immediate correct actions and further plan actions and I received this in writing.<\/p>\n

313.15 (a) Application of stunners, required effect; handling. (1) The captive bolt stunners shall be applied to the livestock in accordance with this section so as to produce immediate unconsciousness in the animals before they are shackled, hoisted, thrown, cast, or cut. The animals shall be stunned in such a manner that they will be rendered unconscious with a minimum of excitement and discomfort.<\/p>\n

The interesting thing about this report to us is the fact that the SUNY Cobleskill Meat and Fisheries Processing Lab seems to be actually hardening the hearts of their students by teaching them to kill. Note what we are told in Matthew 18:6-7.<\/p>\n

6. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.<\/p>\n

7. “Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come!

Now, we don\u2019t know if this student was a believer, but being taught to kill does harden the heart and most often moves people away from having a personal relationship with the Lord, and that seems to constitute a sin.<\/p>\n

The only sure way to end this seemingly endless line of cited and uncited instances of institutionalized animal cruelty is to go vegan and share our compassionate reasons for doing it, so that others will follow our example.<\/p>\n
